Bowling Green State University Men’s Chorus

Richard Schnipke (Ohio)

The Bowling Green State University Men’s Chorus is open to all tenor & bass students, faculty, and staff. The ensemble encompasses students from across many majors, representing all seven colleges at the University, with over half being non-music majors. The chorus functions both as a student organization and as a course offered through the College of Musical Arts, promoting an atmosphere of camaraderie and exemplary musicianship. During the group’s 50 years of existence, the BGSU Men’s Chorus has toured annually, produced numerous recordings, and performed at state, regional, and national conferences and seminars of ACDA, NAfME, and IMC.

Richard Schnipke, D.M.A., serves as Associate Professor of Music Performance Studies and Director of Choral Activities at Bowling Green State University. At BGSU, he conducts the Collegiate Chorale and the University Men’s Chorus as well as teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting and choral literature. Previously, Schnipke was a member of the faculty at Xavier University and the Ohio State University and served fifteen years as a public-school choral director. Choirs under Schnipke’s leadership have performed at many ACDA, OMEA, and IMC meetings and conferences. His research interests include the music of Gwyneth Walker and the incorporation of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the choral rehearsal. As a vocalist, he has sung with Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble, Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble, Collegium Cincinnati, Cincinnati Opera, and Opera Columbus.
