Julian Goods (Michigan)
The Detroit School of Arts Concert Choir is the premier vocal ensemble of the Detroit School of Arts, a nationally recognized fine and performing arts high school in Midtown Detroit. Under the direction of Mr. Julian Goods, the choir has earned consistent Superior I ratings at MSVMA Festivals and received top honors at the 2025 WorldStrides Heritage Festival in NYC, including Best Concert Choir and the Choral Sweepstakes Award. They have performed with the Detroit and Lansing Symphony Orchestras and the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club (2022, 2024). Featured appearances include the Kennedy Center, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, and Abyssinian Baptist Church. The ensemble’s mission is to develop artist-citizens who lead with discipline, excellence, and purpose in every space they enter.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Chicago, IL Julian J. Goods is Co-Director of Choirs at the Detroit School of Arts and Artistic Director of Rackham Choir. At DSA, his ensembles have earned consistent Superior I ratings at MSVMA Festivals, performed with the Detroit and Lansing Symphony Orchestras, and won top honors at the 2025 WorldStrides Heritage Festival. A two-time University of Michigan graduate (BM, MM), he also teaches at Lutheran Summer Music and serves as organist at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. Goods has conducted Messiah and led the Illinois ACDA Join Voices Festival. His performance credits include St. John Passion, Faure’s Requiem, and Porgy and Bess. He is a recipient of the MLK Spirit Award, Earl V. Moore Award, and Diapason’s “20 Under 30” for his dedication to music, justice, and education.
